Château de Castelbouc
The castle of Castelbouc stands above the village of the same name, in the Lozère, in the commune of Sainte-Enimie. Now inaccessible, it is completely in ruins.
The castle dates back to the 12th century and belonged to Étienne de Castelbouc, a knight in the service of Lord Élie de Montbrun, Commander of the Templars of the Larzac. In the 16th century the Estates of the Gévaudan ordered the destruction of many castles in the province. Castelbouc was destroyed in 1592, during the Wars of Religion, so that it could not serve as a refuge for Protestants.
