Château de Jumilhac

Dordogne, Nouvelle-Aquitaine

The château (13th–17th century), a listed historic monument, is the soul of the village because it was protected from the Revolution by the town's inhabitants. Unique in France, its fairy-tale roofs adorned with ridge ornaments with lordly and alchemical allegories inspired the engraver Gustave Doré, who called them "the most romantic in France". Set on a rocky spur it overlooks the upper Isle valley. We invite you to come and discover its rooms with period panelling and furniture, its painted canvases (hunting scenes…), its famous copper kitchen set, its legend of "the spinner" and to relax by visiting its terraced gardens renovated on themes linked to the château's history: Gold and alchemy.

It is also one of the filming locations of the film "Brotherhood of the Wolf" by Christophe Gans released in January 2001, which retraces the legend of the Beast of Gévaudan.
