Château de Rastignac
The Château de Rastignac was built between 1811 and 1817 by the architect Mathurin Salat, known as Blanchard, in the commune of La Bachellerie, in the Dordogne. The château and its park are listed historic monuments.
It was completed in 1817, while the White House dates from 1802, so in theory the château is a copy of the American presidential residence. Many attribute the resemblance to chance and the fashion for the Palladian style, though some local accounts claim the reverse. Burned in 1944 and then rebuilt, the château is surrounded by a park with an open view over the Vézère valley, and makes a good addition to a tour of the Périgord Noir.
