Château de Gien
The Château de Gien was first a medieval building, rebuilt on the site of a hunting lodge between 1494 and 1500. The only surviving remnant of that period is the square tower on the south façade, the 'Charlemagne' tower.
The château was remodelled for Anne of Beaujeu, Countess of Gien and eldest daughter of Louis XI. It later housed Henry II and Catherine de' Medici, then Louis XIV and Anne of Austria during the Fronde.
