Château de Chamerolles
The Château de Chamerolles, at Chilleurs-aux-Bois in the Loiret, was built at the dawn of the Renaissance by Lancelot I du Lac on the plan of a medieval fortress. Its towers rise in a land of ponds between the Beauce and the Gâtinais. In the 17th century it was a stronghold of Protestantism, before returning to a more residential role.
Today the château houses a museum devoted to the history of hygiene and perfume from the 16th century to the present day, the Promenade des parfums. Tours of the interior combine heritage, interactive displays and a scent-based approach. The château is surrounded by a Renaissance-inspired garden.
It lies about thirty kilometres north of Orléans. Opening periods vary with the seasons and could not be checked for 2026: they should be confirmed before visiting.
