Château de Dieulouard
The castle of Dieulouard, in medieval Lorraine dialect 'Deus lou wart', meaning 'God keep it', is a fortress built at the end of the 10th century at Dieulouard, near Pont-à-Mousson, in the Meurthe-et-Moselle. It has been listed as a historic monument since 1927. Built in 997, it passed to the temporal domain of the Bishop of Verdun. It underwent many sieges, by the people of Metz, Charles the Bold and the Huguenots.
It consists of a large 10th-century polygonal curtain wall with seven round towers and a square tower, later remodelled. It overlooks the Moselle and offers a view over the valley. The visit helps visitors understand the military history of Lorraine.
