Château de Chantemerle
The château de Chantemerle, or château de La Bâthie, also called Saint-Didier, is a former twelfth-century fortress, centre of the archiepiscopal châtellenie of La Bâthie and summer residence of the archbishops of Tarentaise. Its ruins stand in the commune of La Bâthie, in Savoie. Mentioned in 1196, it was rebuilt in the thirteenth century, then adapted to firearms in the fourteenth century: new entrances, arrow slits turned into windows, machicolations destroyed.
Fallen into disuse in the early sixteenth century, the château has since known a long period of decline. The remains today let you picture the architecture of a fortified residence of the archbishops, in the Isère valley.
