Château de Branzac

Cantal, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

The fortress of Branzac, in the Cantal, was built in the 15th century, with two large round towers and a polygonal stair turret. It was surrounded by a curtain wall flanked by towers on the plateau side, the other side being harder to reach because of the steep slopes of the Maronne.

Later abandoned, its fireplaces were taken down and rebuilt in other châteaux. It was finally ruined in the 19th century and is now the subject of restoration work.
