Château de Longevergne

Cantal, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

The Château de Longevergne, in the Cantal, already existed in 1228. Luce de Bort rebuilt it at the end of the 15th century, giving it its present appearance. For several centuries it was an annex of the commandery of Ydes, which belonged to the Order of St John of Jerusalem. Owned by the Monclar family for more than three centuries, it was bought in 1824 by Abbé Lavergne, parish priest of Maintenon, whose nephew's descendants still live there.

In 1905 rebuilding and embellishment by the architect Bobin restored the exterior and gave the interior neo-Gothic and neo-Renaissance fireplaces; it has also kept its late 19th-century wallpapers and panelling. It has a large wooded park.
