Château de Bouges
The Château de Bouges, at Bouges-le-Château in the Indre, was built in 1760 and elegantly illustrates the arts of the 18th century. Much of its charm comes from its lived-in feel: the furniture and décor give the impression of a family home, and bouquets from the cutting gardens greet visitors.
The park covers 82 hectares and contains rare species. It can be visited freely, as can the outbuildings, which house the collection of Henry Viguier, who made Bouges a place devoted to the world of horses. Guided tours of the château's ground floor are also offered.
The château is run by the Centre des monuments nationaux. It lies in the Berry, in the southern Indre valley, a few kilometres from Valençay.
