Chaos d'Uchon-Griffe du diable
The Uchon massif, in Saône-et-Loire, lies about fifteen kilometres west of Le Creusot and about twenty kilometres south of Autun. You discover spectacular chaos of granite blocks, known as the Rochers du Carnaval, of which the Devil's Claw (Griffe du Diable) is the most famous element. According to legend, an enormous rock set on another bears the marks of Satan's claws. At the Signal d'Uchon, a high viewpoint at about 680 metres' altitude, an orientation table lets you identify the landscapes of the Arroux valley, the Autunois and the Morvan. The massif is sometimes nicknamed the "Pearl of the Morvan". The site is private property whose owners ask for respect, and a classification project was submitted to public inquiry in 2023. Several hiking circuits let you explore it.
