Chambon-sur-Voueize

Creuse, Nouvelle-Aquitaine

Chambon-sur-Voueize is a town in the north of the Creuse, on the banks of the Voueize, ranked among the Most Beautiful Villages of France. Its main monument is the abbey church of Sainte-Valérie, an important twelfth-century Romanesque building, remarkable for its apse, bell tower and carved portal. It overlooks the village and recalls the former abbey around which the town was organised.

The old village also has stone houses, peaceful streets and several monastic buildings. You go round it in about an hour. It is an interesting stop for lovers of Romanesque art, on the road between Montluçon, Aubusson and the Haute Marche, in a countryside of bocage and meadows.
