Cathédrale Saint Jean
The Primatial Cathedral of Saint-Jean-Baptiste-et-Saint-Étienne (more simply, Saint-Jean Cathedral) is the seat of the Archdiocese of Lyon (France). It ranks as both cathedral and primatial church: the Archbishop of Lyon holds the title of Primate of the Gauls. Originally, the church was dedicated to Saint Stephen, while its baptistery was dedicated to Saint John the Baptist, but, as often happens, the baptistery's name came to be used in everyday speech. Built from 1180 to 1480, it mixes Romanesque and Gothic styles. It houses a fourteenth-century astronomical clock. In the heart of the medieval and Renaissance district of Old Lyon, of which it is a landmark, it has been listed as a historic monument since 1862.
