Cascades d'Arizes et Garet

Hautes-Pyrénées, Occitanie

The Arizes and Garet waterfalls are in the Hautes-Pyrénées, at the foot of the Tourmalet, near the hamlet of Artigues, about ten kilometres upstream of Sainte-Marie-de-Campan. The Adour d'Arizes, coming down from the north-east slopes of the Pic du Midi de Bigorre, joins the Adour de Gripp and forms these two falls, about a kilometre apart. The Arizes one measures around twenty-five metres. Spa visitors from Bagnères-de-Bigorre were already coming to admire them in the nineteenth century.

From the Tourmalet road, a small path through the woods leads in a few minutes to the Arizes waterfall, after a first bridge over the Adour. A second path, further on, goes down to the Garet waterfall. Both are steep, especially the Garet one: good shoes and care are needed, particularly on the descent. The two falls can be linked in an outing of about two hours.
