Cascade de la Vallière

Ain, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

The Vallière waterfall is at Ceyzériat, in the Revermont, at the foot of the Jura, in the Ain. It lies in the Vallon des Faulx, a Sensitive Natural Area designated by the département.

The stream rises at the hamlet of La Grande Fontaine and drops over a rock sill of about thirty metres before joining the Reyssouze. Three mills once worked along about a kilometre of its course, including the Moulin de la Roche, just above the fall, dating from 1792.

Alexandre Dumas set a scene of Les Compagnons de Jéhu, published in 1857, in the little valley below Ceyzériat church. Hiking paths pass nearby, notably from Ceyzériat and Revonnas.
