Cascade de la Charabotte
The Charabotte waterfall marks the start of the Albarine gorges, on the edge of the Hauteville plateau, in the Ain. The river leaves the plateau in three successive steps, with a total drop of about 115 metres according to some sources, the main step exceeding fifty metres.
The site has been listed as a natural monument of artistic character since 1909 and is one of the Ain's Sensitive Natural Areas. A viewpoint beside the departmental road between the Hauteville plateau and Tenay gives a direct view of the fall; it can also be seen from the valley floor at Chaley.
The flow varies greatly, from a trickle in summer to a torrent after heavy rain. Access to the old tunnels from the waterfall has been forbidden since 2019.
