La cascade de Cerveyrieu

Ain, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

The Cerveyrieu waterfall is a fall on the Séran, in the Valromey, above the hamlet of Cerveyrieu in the commune of Artemare, in the Ain. It is about sixty metres high and is one of the geological curiosities of the area, with its potholes, pools and canyon.

The site has been classified as a sensitive natural area by the Ain département since 2017, as have the neighbouring Thurignin gorges. It is accessible all year round. To see it from above, take the D31 below Chassin, between Champagne and Don, where the viewpoint looks out over the Colombier and the Alps.

The Séran's flow varies greatly: the waterfall can be dry in summer. Swimming and picnicking on the banks are forbidden, and dogs must be kept on a lead. Several hikes of about fifteen kilometres pass through the site.
