Cascade de la Doria
Nestled in the Bauges massif a few kilometres from Chambéry, the Doria waterfall rushes down a limestone wall about sixty metres high, at the end of a short undergrowth hike particularly appreciated in summer.
The path starts from the Chaffardon car park, on the road from Lovettaz to Saint-Jean-d'Arvey, and follows the Doria torrent through a shaded forest, passing the remains of an old hydroelectric plant before reaching the viewpoint over the fall. The flow, fed by snowmelt and the massif's resurgences, varies strongly with the season: the waterfall is most spectacular in spring and after heavy rain.
Allow about an hour for the 2.2 km loop (113 m climb), not advised in wet weather as the path can become slippery.
