Cascade de Faillitoux
The Faillitoux waterfall is in the Monts du Cantal, in the commune of Thiézac, near Vic-sur-Cère. It falls about 41 metres from an altitude of 1,032 metres. The stream that feeds it, the Lasmolineries, flows into the Cère, in the Dordogne basin.
The waterfall crosses a basalt flow whose vertical prisms form what are called volcanic organ pipes. Local tradition says that the lava, emerging through a fissure, diverted the course of the stream, which then returned to its place. The site has been listed as a protected natural site since 28 January 1942. It is reached from the Roucolle car park, between Thiézac and Vic-sur-Cère, along the N122 national road; the fall is less than 500 metres from the road.
