Cascade de Courmes

Alpes-Maritimes, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur

The Courmes waterfall is in the commune of Courmes, in the Alpes-Maritimes, in the Bès valley, not far from the Saut du Loup. It falls from a limestone wall overlooking the village, which clings to the mountainside in the Prealps of Grasse. Sources disagree on its height, which is counted in tens of metres.

The site has been listed since 1913, which makes it one of the oldest protected sites in the département. It is reached by following the road to Courmes, then a small road and a short path. Many hiking trails link the waterfall to the village and the surrounding ridges. The flow varies with the seasons: the site is most impressive after rain or snowmelt, and more discreet in dry summers. The Bès valley is also explored by canyoning enthusiasts.
