La Clue de la Cerise
The Clue de la Cerise is a short canyon of the Estéron, in the hinterland of the Alpes-Maritimes, reached from the Gilette area. Its aquatic part is about 800 metres long, between about 200 and 180 metres' altitude, in a limestone setting with narrow passages.
You reach it on foot from a track leaving the D 17, going down to the stone bridge known as the Pont de la Cerise, over the Estéron. The route is made in the water, among pools, confined passages and small jumps, with a natural arch and strong faults in the rock near the exit. The route is open to a family audience when the flow is normal, but the site can become dangerous in flood; a rope is useful for some passages. The water is about 17 to 23 °C in summer, which makes it a cool place in the middle of nature.
