La Cascade du Saut du Loup

Alpes-Maritimes, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur

The Saut du Loup is a waterfall of the Loup gorges, in the Alpes-Maritimes, near the hilltop village of Gourdon and Pont-du-Loup. The river tumbles down a rock step there and feeds a basin of emerald water, framed by steep walls. Sources differ on the height of the fall, so it is best not to quote a precise figure.

The site, run by a private operator, is developed with a viewpoint overlooking the Grande Marmite, a natural basin carved by erosion, as well as the Demoiselles and Pétrifiantes waterfalls. This place is easy to reach from the gorge road, the D 6, from Pont-du-Loup, and is a popular stop for a short walk. The limestone cliffs and Mediterranean vegetation around it make it a typical landscape of the Grasse hinterland.
