Cascade du Casteu
The Cascade du Casteu, also called the Castle waterfall, is an artificial waterfall created in 1885 on the Castle Hill in Nice, in the Alpes-Maritimes. It crowned the creation of the park, begun in the mid-19th century on the former citadel site.
Its construction is linked to the city's water supply: in 1878 the Compagnie Générale des Eaux was granted the concession for the Vésubie canal, about thirty-two kilometres long, and the waterfall serves as an overflow for its water.
It can be seen on a walk up the hill, which also offers views of the harbour, the old town and the Baie des Anges. The site is listed and can be reached on foot from the seafront or by lift.
