Cascade d'Arifat

Tarn, Occitanie

The Arifat waterfalls are in the Tarn, on the Bardes stream, near Montredon-Labessonnié and Réalmont. The site is best known for its main fall, about eighty metres high and divided into several steps, which is among the tallest in the region.

The water rushes into a very narrow gorge, in a chaos of rocks where the current has carved natural pools. The place is not easy to find and keeps a wild and picturesque character. A developed discovery trail lets you approach the falls, with notably a footbridge suspended above the water. There are loops of varying length, from a short family walk to a longer hike. The flow depends greatly on rain: the waterfall is most spectacular after heavy precipitation, and much more discreet in dry periods.
