Beuvron-en-Auge

Calvados, Normandie

A little jewel of Norman architecture, dominated by half-timbering, Beuvron-en-Auge is classified as a "most beautiful village of France". Rebuilt in the traditional way using old materials and elements, the covered market marks out the village square, on which you will also admire a superb fifteenth-century manor and several half-timbered buildings mostly dating from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Around the square, shops with "retro" signs vie with the flowered balconies of the houses. Admirably restored, this delightful village hosts the Geranium Festival in spring and the Cider Festival in autumn. Art and antique lovers will be delighted to discover antique shops, flea markets ("Les Beuvr'antiques" on the second Sunday of each month) and artists' studios. Since its inauguration in October 2011, the former village school has become the Espace des Métiers d'Art, a place promoting craftsmanship. Very near the former school is also the Relais de la Route du Cidre, a showcase for local cider producers and a tourist information point.
