Banc d'Arguin

Gironde, Nouvelle-Aquitaine

The Banc d'Arguin is a large sandbank at the entrance of Arcachon Bay, in the Gironde, facing the Dune du Pilat. This sand islet, which changes shape with the currents and tides, is listed as a national nature reserve and is an important nesting place for Sandwich terns and other seabirds.

It is reached by boat from Arcachon, Pyla or Cap Ferret, following the excursions offered in season. Access is regulated in certain areas to protect wildlife, and you must follow the guides' instructions. The panorama over the dune, the ocean and the bay is one of the most spectacular on the Atlantic coast.
