Sainte-Eulalie-d'Olt

Aveyron, Occitanie

The town, of medieval structure, is organised around the church square in a succession of lanes and little squares. Rich fifteenth- and sixteenth-century dwellings evoke the past prosperity of this town. Houses built of Lot pebbles between the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries abound in architectural details. A restored grain mill lets its great wheel be heard. The church, already mentioned in 909, has a Romanesque choir surrounded by imposing cylindrical columns. The ambulatory gives access to three apsidal chapels and a bust reliquary preserves two thorns from Christ's crown. The village's buildings also include the fifteenth-century château des Curières de Castelnau, and a sixteenth-century Renaissance mansion with corbelled upper storeys.
