Estaing

Aveyron, Occitanie

From the year 1000 to the Revolution, the lords of Estaing did not only mark the history of their village. For having saved the king at Bouvines in 1214, Pierre-Tristan was granted royal lilies on his family's arms. In 1368, Pierre was named cardinal and governor of the Papal States. Under Louis XVI, Vice-Admiral Charles-Henri distinguished himself across the Atlantic in the American War of Independence. The castle of the counts of Estaing overlooks the scaled lauze roofs of the Renaissance mansions. Facing the castle, a Flamboyant Gothic porch precedes the fifteenth-century church.
