Saint-Côme-d'Olt

Aveyron, Occitanie

The village was built over time inside the moats of the old medieval town, of which three fortified gates remain. Overlooking the village with its flame-shaped bell tower, the sixteenth-century church is Flamboyant Gothic. The twelfth-century Penitents' chapel, with its openwork bell tower, is capped with a roof shaped like a circumflex accent. The manor of the lords of Calmont, built in the twelfth century and remodelled in the fifteenth, has a Renaissance façade and bears two fourteenth-century towers. The lanes keep old medieval shops and ancient fifteenth- and sixteenth-century dwellings, such as the house of the consul of Rodelle, with mullioned windows and adorned with sculptures. The Ouradou, a building with an octagonal roof, was erected in memory of the victims of the plague of 1586.
