Saint-Léon-sur-Vézère
Inhabited since the dawn of time, the caves and caverns formed perfect natural shelters for our ancestors, the Cro-Magnon people. Past the bridge, you discover the twelfth-century Romanesque church capped with lauze stones, whose plan resembles that of Byzantine churches. In the cemetery you find the expiatory chapel, while the château de Clérans stands out for its polygonal tower, corner turrets and dormer pediments (a sixteenth-century ensemble). In the centre of the village, the fourteenth-century Manoir de Lassalle is topped by a square keep with a machicolated wall-walk. Do not miss visiting also, downstream of the village, the château de Chabans, which has been completely restored as a historic monument.
