The medieval village was once the domain of the abbey of Fulda in the ninth century, then a lordly domain in the twelfth century. Of this glorious past remain a fourteenth-century fortress and enclosure walls 860 metres long. You can enter the village by the Sierck gate, pass between the two round towers to discover the picturesque lanes that have partly kept their old character. You should then visit the church of Saint-Nicolas, a neo-Baroque building, built in the seventeenth century on the site of a Romanesque church. On Place des Baillis, you can admire the sixteenth-century "little castle", remodelled later, once the residence of the margraves of Baden. Strolling along the streets, you will discover the old wash-house then the fortress, imposing with its towers and barbican. You should see the small seventeenth-century chapel and enjoy the calm of the medieval garden.
