Résurgence de la douix
La Douix is an important Vaucluse-type resurgence, at the gates of Châtillon-sur-Seine, in the north of the Côte-d'Or. The water gushes there at the foot of a limestone cliff of the Châtillonnais, at the bottom of a laid-out basin, and feeds a stream that joins the Seine.
The site has a long history: it was a sacred place from the start of the Iron Age, and sources describe it as the oldest Celtic place of worship in the region. Gallo-Roman votive stones from La Douix are displayed in the local museum, and offerings were found in 1993 during pumping for a speleological exploration.
The place, accessible all year round, offers a picnic area and a car park. The GR 2, which follows the Seine, passes nearby. Dives in the cavity require the town hall's agreement.
