Château de Bussy-Rabutin
The château de Bussy-Rabutin, or château de Bussy-le-Grand, is a Renaissance-style castle initially built in the twelfth and fourteenth centuries, at Bussy-le-Grand, in the Côte-d'Or. Listed as a historic monument in 1862, then its estate in 2005, it is labelled Maisons des Illustres and has belonged to the State since 1929, managed by the Centre des monuments nationaux.
Set in a wooded valley and surrounded by a French-style garden, its decoration was created by Roger de Rabutin, count of Bussy, during his exile away from the court of the Sun King. The château houses an important collection of portraits that express his resentment as an exile and his libertine view of the Grand Siècle.
