Parc Zoologique et Botanique de Mulhouse
The Mulhouse Zoological and Botanical Park, in the Haut-Rhin, goes back to 1868. Created by industrialists of the Société Industrielle de Mulhouse as a "people's park", a relaxation place for their workers, it has been owned by the town since 1893. It combines a landscape garden, rich in trees and plants, and a zoo of about 25 hectares, with flower displays from spring to autumn.
The park presents more than a thousand animals of several hundred species, a large share of which are threatened in the wild. It is one of the European zoos most committed to conservation: it takes part in many European breeding programmes, directly manages several, and supports in situ conservation programmes.
A space devoted to Africa, Horizon Afrique, opened to the public on 1 August 2025; part of the price of each entry is donated to conservation programmes. The education service, heir to the "little zoo school" born in 1965, welcomes school groups, and the park has a shop, a play area and food service.
