Musée de l'Impression sur Etoffes

Haut-Rhin, Grand Est

The Musée de l'Impression sur Étoffes (MISE) is at 14 rue Jean-Jacques Henner, in Mulhouse (Haut-Rhin). A Musée de France, it combines a museum of decorative arts, technology, local history and fashion, devoted to textile printing.

Its collections come largely from the Société industrielle de Mulhouse, whose holdings were transferred to the museum in the mid-twentieth century. They combine samples of printed fabrics from around the world, sample books, preparatory drawings and graphic arts, machines and industrial equipment, as well as archive documents and decorative objects. They illustrate notably the importance of the indienne (printed calico) industry in Alsace and cover several centuries of production, up to contemporary creation. The museum also has a remarkable set of silk scarves, including Hermès squares.

Thefts discovered in 2018 led to a large inventory and checking project of the collections.
