Musée d'Art Africain

Haut-Rhin, Grand Est

At Gunsbach, a village in the Munster valley in the Haut-Rhin where Albert Schweitzer spent much of his life, the African art museum displays objects brought back from Gabon. The collection of more than five hundred pieces consists largely of Gabonese art and crafts and is managed by the International Association for the Work of Dr Schweitzer of Lambaréné.

It is shown in a room provided by Gunsbach town hall, near the Albert Schweitzer house, which has its own museum on the doctor's life, his hospital at Lambaréné and his travels. As the commune wishes to take back the room in the medium term, the association will have to find a new space, so it is advisable to check before visiting.
