Museum du Coquillage
The Muséum du Coquillage is a private museum at 8 rue du Maréchal Leclerc, in Les Sables-d'Olonne (Vendée). It presents a collection of tropical shells from all over the world, said to number about 50,000 pieces and presenting itself as unique in Europe for the quality, diversity and number of specimens.
Displayed in showcases, the shells stand out for their shapes and bright colours, notably with spectacular giant clams. The visit also shows corals, mounted crustaceans, sea urchins, sponges, starfish, sharks and various curiosities linked to the marine world.
The visit is guided and lasts about 1 h 20. It takes place in French, with the possibility of being accompanied in English. Two playful routes are offered to children, which makes it an outing suited to families. Groups can be welcomed on request.
The entrance has three steps, and reserved parking spaces are nearby. The museum is in the town centre, not far from the town hall.
