Museoscope du lac
The Muséoscope du Lac is a museum devoted to the building of the Serre-Ponçon dam, one of the largest artificial dams in Europe, and to the history of the villages swallowed by the lake. It stands at the Serre-Ponçon viewpoint, on the Sainte-Catherine road, in the commune of Rousset, in the Hautes-Alpes.
The visit, lasting about an hour and a half, alternates sound and visual presentations. One room has a model of the old village, a film traces the history of the dam with testimonies from former inhabitants, and another explains its construction and operation. A 4D/5D cinema experience also offers a flight over the Durance as if on an eagle's back.
Audio guides are available in several languages, including English, German, Italian and Dutch. The visit is recommended for children from six and suits families and anyone interested in history and engineering. The site overlooks the lake and helps to understand what the reservoir changed for the valley.
