Musée vivant du cheval de Chantilly

Oise, Hauts-de-France

The Living Horse Museum is devoted to the world of the horse. It was created in 1982 by Yves Bienaimé in the Great Stables of Chantilly, in the Oise, whose buildings belong to the Institut de France. It stands next to the racecourse, in a town known as a European centre of horse racing.

The museum is called 'living' because it houses some thirty horses in an exhibition hall. It may seem obvious that a horse museum should show live horses, but this is worth noting, as animals are rarely displayed in permanent structures outside zoos.
