Mémorial de l'internement et de la déportation
More than 50,000 internees, mostly Resistance fighters and political opponents but also Jews and foreign civilians (Americans, Russians), passed through the Royallieu camp at Compiègne, in the Oise, between 1941 and 1944 before being deported to the Nazi camps. This made Royallieu the second largest camp in France after Drancy, and the only one run entirely by the Wehrmacht. Nearly one deportee in two never returned.
The historical route uses modern audiovisual technology to tell the story of the internees through recorded testimonies, written documents, films and holographic tables.
