Musée de la Nacre et de la Tabletterie
The Musée de la Nacre et de la Tabletterie, at Méru in the Oise, is housed in a 19th-century factory. It preserves and presents a local craft: the trades of button maker and tabletier, heirs to a centuries-old tradition of working mother-of-pearl and semi-precious materials, demonstrated by guides.
The visit shows how a mother-of-pearl button is made in a faithfully recreated button workshop driven by a steam engine. The exhibition rooms display fine collectors' pieces, fans and inlaid objects, in playful display cabinets. An industrial diorama, a slide show and a shop complete the visit.
