Musée Champollion, Les Ecritures du Monde

Lot, Occitanie

The museum's collections tell the fabulous adventure of writing, which appeared in different places in the world as long as 5,300 years ago for the oldest. From Mexico to China via Mesopotamia, objects inscribed with brush, reed pen or quill tell how humankind invented, adapted or made its writing travel. The museum extends over 4 levels and 8 rooms and is fully accessible to disabled visitors, except for the loggias which, on each level, let you observe the façade of a thousand letters more closely and offer a fine view of the town and Place Champollion, restored in 2008. Besides the permanent collection open all year, which brings together more than 600 objects or documents, the museum regularly offers events for all audiences (readings, lectures, concerts, screenings...) and temporary exhibitions that explore one of the civilisations covered in the permanent collections.
