Cardaillac
The village is firmly anchored on its rocky spur in Haut-Quercy. The name Cardaillac rings clear, a little Gascon. Many lords of Cardaillac have made themselves talked about over time: Guillaume V founder of the abbey of Leyme, Marques who defended his Quercy during the Hundred Years' War...
The pride of Cardaillac today is its landscape of woods interspersed with secret valleys, its fort, a true miniature town with three towers. Once through the gate giving access to the plateau, you find yourself in the middle of the Middle Ages. Lanes with a central gutter wind between ochre sandstone houses. Many architectural details survive, ogives, carved signs. You come upon a terraced house, defying the void, which has been well restored. Others, humbler, lean on each other in the silence of the lanes.
