Château de Lacapelle Marival
The 13th-century castle of Lacapelle-Marival, in the Lot, set in hilly countryside, has all the features of a medieval stronghold: the keep, machicolations and a turret with arrow slits, while a 15th- and 16th-century residence houses portraits and sculptures.
The local stone, a sandstone flecked with quartz, gives the village its warm yellow-orange tones. The tall 15th-century church, also of sandstone, has a nave separated by large round pillars and ringed by ten small chapels between the buttresses. The 16th-century market hall on stone pillars hosts a small local produce market. A medieval remnant, the Arbol, the old gate of the fort, is topped by an imposing round tower. Above, the Bois Bordet offers an exceptional view over the village and its surroundings.
