Menton
Nestled between the Alps and the Mediterranean on the Italian border, Menton enjoys one of the mildest microclimates on the Côte d'Azur, ideal for the citrus fruit and exotic gardens that have made its name since European aristocrats turned it into a favourite winter resort.
The old town, with its narrow lanes and colourful façades piled up on the hill of the old cemetery, overlooks a marina and pebble beaches. Every February, the Lemon Festival turns the Biovès gardens into giant citrus sculptures, while several remarkable gardens, such as the Val Rahmeh exotic botanical garden, bear witness to this horticultural tradition.
