Musée océanographique de Monaco
The Oceanographic Museum of Monaco stands at the foot of the Rock, on the cliff overlooking the Mediterranean. Wanted by Prince Albert I, it was inaugurated in 1910 and remains one of the most visited sites in the principality.
Its aquarium occupies the lower levels of the building, with tanks devoted to Mediterranean fauna and to tropical coral reefs, with fish, living corals, turtles and a large shark lagoon.
The Micro Aquarium lets you watch living plankton and microscopic fauna from the aquariums on screen. The museum also presents exhibitions on the history of oceanography, as well as OCEANOMANIA, a cabinet of marine curiosities staged by the artist Mark Dion.
The visit suits families, those curious about marine science and school classes, with activities at various times of year.
