Villa Grecque Kérylos
The Villa Kérylos stands at Beaulieu-sur-Mer (Alpes-Maritimes), between Nice and Monaco, on the shores of the Mediterranean. It is the reconstruction of a dwelling of ancient Greece, designed in the early twentieth century, in the Belle Époque, by the archaeologist and Hellenist Théodore Reinach, with the architect Emmanuel Pontremoli.
The villa is entirely furnished and decorated in the spirit of Antiquity: mosaics, frescoes, furniture inspired by Greek models, and rooms organised around a central courtyard with columns. It gives a concrete image of daily life in a Greek palace, while bearing witness to the Belle Époque's taste for Antiquity.
The individual visit lasts about an hour and a half. An audioguide is available, and guided tours are offered each day. Occasional events, notably during the European Heritage Days, enrich the discovery. The villa is wheelchair accessible for a self-guided visit.
An original place, which will please lovers of ancient history, architecture and the art of living, and which can be combined with a walk on the neighbouring Cap Ferrat peninsula.
