Cannes

Alpes-Maritimes, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur

A simple fishing village until the mid-nineteenth century, Cannes owes its rise to the English aristocracy, who made it a prized winter resort, before its International Film Festival, created in 1946, propelled it onto the world stage each May.

The Croisette, the famous promenade lined with palm trees and legendary hotels like the Carlton or the Majestic, runs along the bay to the Palais des Festivals where the red-carpet climb takes place. The old Suquet quarter, perched on the hill, overlooks the port and the Lérins islands, reached in a few minutes by boat for those seeking calm and wild beaches.
