Logis de la Chabotterie
The Logis de la Chabotterie is a typical Bas-Poitou manor, built in the 16th century around a closed courtyard, with its tiled roofs, outbuildings and gardens. It was in the nearby wood that the Vendée leader François-Athanase Charette was captured on 23 March 1796 by General Travot, an episode that marked the end of the Vendée war; a cross marks the spot.
Restored by the département, the manor houses a history centre that presents the Vendée wars in a lively and nuanced way, followed by rooms furnished as in the 18th century. Flower and vegetable gardens, an orchard and a path to Charette's cross extend the visit. Listed as a historic monument, the site also hosts concerts and events.
