Les Marais du Vigueirat
Located at the junction of two remarkable ecosystems, the Rhône delta and the steppe plain of La Crau, the Marais du Vigueirat nature reserve is a territory most of which stretches over more than 9 km from north to south with a maximum width of 1.5 kilometres. The land was acquired by the Conservatoire du littoral and its management entrusted to the Amis des Marais du Vigueirat. The site has been designated a national nature reserve since November 2011 and is part of the core zone of the Camargue Biosphere Reserve (UNESCO MAB programme). The marshes are made up of salt flats, ponds, bulrush beds and reedbeds, natural environments characteristic of the ecosystems and biocoenoses of the Rhône delta. They shelter many waterbirds and endemic and protected plants.
